dd is 7mo old, has eczema and is being breast fed. currently she has a passing interest in food so I don't think she needs any additional water. DH thinks she may as it helps HIS eczema. He will stop worrying if you ladies give your opinion on what is best.
thanks

How would water help his ezcema. My son suffers with it and i really can not see the link between water and eczema.

Why does it help his ezcema because it is caused by dyhydration? Does he have special water high in minerals that he could be missing from his body so that way it helps him?

I am sure that somebody will tell you that breastmilk contains everything the baby needs and is enough fluid for a little one.

the central heating is dehydrating so by drinking more water, he hydrates his skin from the inside hence he is less prone to break out in eczema.

hi alux. i've suffered on and off with eczema patches all my life, but i've never heard of the condition being improved by drinking more water. i mean i know that drinking plenty of water is good for your skin generally, but didn't think it helped eczema specifically. i've had topical steroids and used sun lamps in the past - can't remember any docs mentioning the water thing.

in terms of fluid needs, i've been told that bfing gives them all they need. it was really hot this summer wasn't it, and i managed without water (ds is just a little younger than your dd).

hope her eczema clears up quickly. have you seen your gp about it?

ps wasn't recommending either steroids or sun lamps for your dd!!! ;o)

Alux, your DD is on a liquid diet. She gets loads of liquid from your milk.

Your DH presumably lives on more solid sorts of foods?

NQC - I thanks for pointing out the liquid diet thing. Never pointed that out to him yet. He wishes he could survive on a liquid diet.
