I'm always hearing people say they bf lying down and get loads of sleep this way. How? I've been trying lately (previously used cradle hold) as I seem to have fast let down, making my 6 wk old v windy and apparently lying down makes it easier for them to deal with the flow.
i thought it might help me during the nights too. But the position is so uncomfortable, arms all in the wrong position and nowhere to put them, I'm never on my side comfortably (I like lying in the recovery position, almost face down) nor on my back. And anyway, I have to sit up to wind her and then faff changing sides, meaning pulling her across me and repositioning. Do people just feed from one side all night, cos I keep hearing people say they just lie there and the baby latches on and helps themself and they hardly notice? Do they mean older children? Do they not burp them?

I think it's a big boobs thing - I feed DS lying down with my G cups :) (lower arm under baby's head like a pillow) but my mum (C cup when BF) said she could never manage it. Don't worry if you can't do it. Also, it took us ages to work out how to do it - probably only got the hang of it around 4 months.

DD is 4 weeks now and I 'gravitated' to feeding lying down right from the start as the cradle position was too painful with the c-section. OH has moved to another room so DD and I have the double bed to ourselves. She sleeps in the middle of the bed and I move to her right or left side to change breasts. If feeding from the right breast, I lie on my right side, I extend the right arm over her head, place my head on a hard, high pillow and the rest of my body is in a fetal position. She latches on by herself, I snooze and I don't wind her at night (even during the day she rarely burps anyway).

But if it doesn't work for you don't do it!
