Is it definitely right that you can't overfeed a breastfed baby?

Also, what happens when you start on solids?

ds not having much in the way of solids at the moment, but is six months old next week. Since I'm planning to carry on bfing, I'm not going to know how much milk he is getting.

Will he self-regulate with solids as with breastmilk?

Am slightly concerned because ds is an absolute chubster (I live in France and when i took him for his jabs the doctor told me that my milk must be too rich) and I have always been comforted by the fact that you can't overfeed if you exclusively breastfeed.

He will regulate his breastmilk intake, that's his job, he knows how to do it.

Babies are supposed to be chubby, I wouldn't worry. As he gets older, he will become more active, and the weight will shift itself.

Is it normal in France to wait until 6 months? I know Italy does the six month thing.

Surely no baby can be overfed? They just won't eat if they aren't hungry!

My ds was also fantastically fat! Saw some pix of him at 10 months, and my was he superchubs. Looks like he's about to explode.
He's still a bit of a bunter tbh, but he's only four and rather short for his age, and slothful. But definitely not the fatboy fat that he used to be. I still call him Chubby absentmindedly from time to time, and he doesn't bat an eyelid
French babies are all underweight and wussy! Or at least that's my theory.

Thanks for the replies. Good to know I don't have to worry about solids with bfing.

Aloha - lol at your ds being a bit of a bunter. I reassured myself a bit the other day looking at pictures of dh and his brothers - looks like a scene from a fat baby contest.

French babies do seem to be smaller. Feel a bit sensitive looking at ds next to them.

4 months is recommended weaning age here - at least according to the doctor who did the jabs.

Having been a bit upset I have decided that the too rich milk thing has to be nonsense. Was helped by a friend who suggested that some French folk are a bit anti breast feeding because it could interfere with Monsieur's marital rights.

Yes my dh was really rotund. He's now 6'4" and definitely not at all fat. I love the idea of a fat baby contest!

French babies are puny! I bet your baby could have their babies any day of the week

Ds could take on a few as well!!
