How available is a tongue tie division service in your area?

I am really interested in how many breastfeeding mums have been able to access someone who divides tongue ties when needed. Have you gone NHS or private and were you happy with the result. Has it made a difference? My experience is it is very difficult to find someone locally when you need to. Tell me about your experience please.

Kingston. Local hospital has private (about a week wait) and NHS (longer) service. The problem though is getting referred and the TT being spotted in the first place, especially if it's a non-typical tie.

My GP who is excellent in every other respects assured me that TT doesn't cause feeding problems. Three midwives and a breastfeeding counsellor in the hospital all missed it despite me asking them explicitly to check for it.

We went private in the end but it was £80 and absolutely no follow up, guidance on exercises, etc.

Not sure that we saw anyone from an Infant Feeding Team in Bristol - we were just referred by the midwife and went to a (ENT?) clinic for a doctor to snip it. It does depend on the midwife being able to spot it though.

Rita- infant feeding team is headed by Marion copeland and Kate someone. When they were puzzled by dd's regrowing Tongue they mentioned a professor whitelaw (?) but we never saw him.

It's such a lottery as to whether their HCP can spot it propely!

Ah, didn't see them then - just saw a Dr at the clinic.

Bristol again. St Michaels don't divide them (or recognise them, even when looking for them!) but once we were referred to Southmead we got an appointment within a few days.

We had it done at St. Michaels last summer, so guess they do now.

Funny people keep mentioning Bristol....this is where we were when mine had surgery, we had to wait ten months and then it required GA. This was ten years ago.

Yes, they used to do them at St Michaels but have stopped. Ours was only a few weeks ago.
