Leaving a BF 16mo overnight

KD0706 · 26/05/2011 16:44

I've just booked an overnight girly 'weekend' (just staying the Saturday night). It will be the start of September so a while away.

DD (currently 13 mo) still feeds loads.
My mum will have her and I think probably I can manage to feed her late afternoon then my mum could probably bring her to me in the morning.
But she will still be without me for maybe 16+ hours.

Was hoping for others stories of successfully leaving similar babies, and any tips on things I should do to prepare her, eg should I try feeding her a full milk feed from a sippy cup, or just abandon her with my mum and hope for the best??

Thanks.

I left my DS for 6 nights when he was 18 months old - other than me having to express a little morning and evening, there were no problems :) DH said he was harder to get to sleep than usual, but otherwise ok!

she'll be fine, enjoy your break!

I left my 5 month bf Ds last Saturday night for a hen do. Spent the previous weeks building up a stash of expressed milk in the freezer and DH gave Ds a total of 6 feeds from a bottle. Like kveta said, he was harder to settle at bedtime but fine as a one-off. Don't forget your breast pump to get rid of the engorgement - I had 3 bags of milk in the hotel minibar fridge by Sunday morning!

Enjoy yourself.

I went to a wedding overnight when DS was 14 months and still feeding loads in the night (was eating loads and drinking cow's milk too, so didn't need my milk for calories, just for comfort). We left him with his grandparents from about 8am on a Saturday until 2pm the following day. He woke several times, and it took grandpa quite a while to settle him, but he never got distraught and they were all fine (but tired!) when we got back. I, however, had underestimated how much he fed at night and had massive rock solid boobs in the morning. By the time I got home at about 2pm I was desperate to either feed him or get the breast pump out!

I left my then 13 month for about 24 hours - he was fine - he does take a bottle quite happly though -although at that point was still feeding in the evening and at least once at night, had to express early evening and first thing in the morning - its quite likely by 16 months syour DD will be feeding less - I would do a trial run of your mum settling in the evening before that - with a cup probably

Thanks for all the replies. Dd will be staying at my mums so I think I will take her there a few days in advance to at least get her used to being there (we do also visit lots)

I'll take a pump just in case.

And who knows maybe by then she'll regularly sleep through the night...
