Breastfeeding and thrush?

I'm wondering if anyone might have some advice or experience they could share with me.

I have recently [over the past couple of days] been experiencing pain whilst breastfeeding my 3 month old. Previously bf was pain free.

My nipples feel raw and like they have been rubbed with sandpaper. I am continuing to bf but it is very uncomfortable. Nipples also have some small cracks. There was a small white patch on my right nipple [not a blister] but this now seems to have gone. I have been using lansinoh cream regularly which seems to have aided some healing but bf is still quite painful, especially when baby is getting initial latch on.

I have read a bit about nipple thrush and it seems to suggest that the pain would be at the end of the feed not the beginning as I have experienced...

So am now wondering what this pain might be?

Another reason I suspect it may be thrush is that I have just recently finished anti-biotic threatment for an ear infection.

Anyone have any ideas??

Thanks.

It could well be thrush. Mine has just cleared up after 2 months of suffering(!). I would ring your GP and get him/her to prescribe some canestan cream. If that doesn't work, you might need tablets. Your baby will need to be treated as well otherwise you will just reinfect each other.

I would do a bit of reading around about it - Kellymom is good. I bought garlic, grapefruit seed extract and a probiotic to take as well but couldn't put my hand on my heart and say they had any effect...
