What can you treat thrush with?

I might have thrush so gp prescribed daktarin oral gel.
I'm allergic to it I think as my nipples got really hot and itchy.
Gp says only alternative is canesten cream which has to be washed off before every feed! Shock not easy when dd feeds every 30 mins at times!

There must be something else???

I had a thread on thrush somewhere on here and somone posted a link to the BFN leaflet on it. Basically you and baby need treatment or it is hard to shift.

I got Daktarin cream and then fluconazole capsule but GP wasn't keen on treating baby as he showed no signs of thrush. It is still lingering I think, though has improved, so need to go back.

I will try and find the link for you when I have time.

The gel is for the baby's mouth, not your nipples - if you apply it after the feed it shouldn't make your nipples itch. You need daktarin or canestan cream - just keep a muslin handy to wipe off any excess before the next feed.

I sit with some tissues which I dip in my handy glass of water and give my nipples a quick wipe pre-feed, not as hard as I thought as was also a bit Hmm when I got that instruction. Second reading the breastfeeding network leaflet, here is the link
