BF and allergy treatments

I'm allergic to mosquitos and I've got 2 really hideous and painful bites on my leg :( I've managed to avoid being bitten since DD1 was born (possibly due to not being able to afford to go on holiday anywhere) and so I'm not sure how to treat it now.

DH just got back from the pharmacist where I had sent him on a mission to get hydro cortisone cream which is what I used before, but the pharmacist says it is not safe. Also the pharmacist says I can't take piriton but according to BFN there are some antihistamines that are fine to take. I am now very confused, not to mention swollen and itchy.

Normal insect bite creams do precisely chuff all and I'm not filled with confidence about the calamine cream that the pharmacist recommended. Please help me otherwise I will have to wear a maxi skirt for the next 2 weeks.

Pharmacists will follow strictest guidelines whci are crap, because there has been virtually no work done to establish drug safety while bfing.

BFN have a drugs in breastmilk helpline, staffed by a pharmacist. Try it. They refer to Hales (the definitive drugsinbreastmilk guide) and will see you alright!

Oh brilliant, thanks! I didn't know they had a helpline, I'll give them a bell in the morning.

Surely hydrocortisone can't be that bad, my baby has a prescription for it!?

Yes, the BfN helpline is good.

I take children's antihistamine syrup.

I agree with RitaMorgan - my DS has a prescription for hydrocortisone (strong stuff too, and for his face).
