........ladies I need your help/advice/support. My 6wk old son (my youngest of three) left my nipples in a real mess, he was an extreme sucker, coupled with thrush/mastitis/bacterial infections. Last week i made the decision to start expressing to try to let my nipples heal. The first few days were great he took expressed breast from bottle and some breast feeds aswell. But a week on he's decided bottles no more and either won't suckle at all or sucks passively but only manages about 1oz in half hour. My decision should I switch to bottles completely in hope he caves in? I'm finding this really hard; trying to be pragmatic but hating seeing him struggling with the bottle when my boobs are leaking all over the place. I fed number 1/2 exclusively breast so know how good it can be just that this time things have went wrong and I don't know what to do for best. I would like to combine breast and bottle but is it fairer to make a complete change to bottle just now? We are using Nuk bottles, and he seems to like the latex teats the best but not taking much milk at all so any bottle/teat advice would be good also.

I think you need to seek some RL help from a breastfeeding counciler. You may have fed your first 2 succesfully but every baby/mom BF relationship is different. There could be a problem like a tounge tie or other oral abnormality which is causing the problems these can also course problems bottle feeding to.

It's best not to force a bottle on a hunggery baby they are actualy less likly to take it, either offer when he's no hungery or get some one else to offer. Only you can make the decsion to switch but some expect advice first would be a good idea.

I agree, I wouldn't try cold turkey personally.
