Feeding a baby with teeth hurts!

DD is 9 months and has top and bottom teeth. Breastfeeding her is getting quite sore, not always, but it's unpleasant! She doesn't bite but sit must be the teeth rubbing against me.
Is there anything I can do about this?
I am trying to cut down bf at the moment, introducing a bottle or 2 a day, do you think my milk could have reduced already, causing her to suck harder and make me sore?

Could you try going back to good latching on habits - nose to nipple etc. as if she was a newborn - rather than letting her sort herself out? DS was an early teether and I had to do that to make sure he didn't accidentally nip me.

I still have to pay attention to DS's latch at times, especially when he is teething. I just break the latch and make sure he is on properly.

He is 17months btw

DD2 is 11 months and has 6 teeth. Whenever a new one comes in she seems to 'experiment' for a few days, biting or just grazing me with her teeth. I always pull her off and re-latch. It tends to be towards the end of a feed when she's messing about - 1st thing in the morning when she's starving she never does it!

My 2-1/2 year old gets lazy sometimes and it hurts. Plus I'm 6 months' pregnant, which also makes it sensitive.

You have my sympathy

I find it's sore for a few days / couple of weeks when new teeth come through, then it settles down again.

Tanyaaah · 24/05/2011 17:40

Ah that's good. It has been ok today. Thanks!

Pleased it seems better today.
When my DDs top teeth first came through I felt similar, just that they were rubbing against me. And I ended up with two teeth marks of broken skin where the teeth were rubbing. But it fairly quickly settled down, in 1-2 weeks I think.

When her next two top teeth came in I didn't notice any difference so I'm hopeful the worst is over.

Hope it continues to go well.

I think it's the latch, you need to be extra careful when there are teeth. I've had a few uncomfy, chewy, feeds so I just take extra care with latching on the next time (DS is 12mo)
