What clothes have you bought recently that are good for breastfeeding in?

I've copied and pasted the bulk of this from another thread, it got lost in an argument over hooter hiders Grin...

...has anyone recently bought anything that they find is good to bf in? With dd1 I bought quite a lot of bf tops, things like jojomamanbebe, from Ebay, but all these slits and things just made it more tricky I found. Also they really weren't all that attractive/trendy!

3yrs on and dd2 has arrived, now that I am investigating my pre-pregnancy wardrobe again I think most of my bf appropriate tops have gone by the wayside and I have very little. Don't want to spend a fortune but don't want to spend the next x months in dh's north face zip up thing!

Would really appreciate any links to any current high street bf friendly stuff?

I'm afraid I just wear a normal top. I know some women wear a stretchy vest top underneath that they pull down when the top goes up so they can cover their tummy.

I just have no shame.

DorisDoesntDance · 21/05/2011 20:49

primark have stretchy vests with a long body for £2.00. i'm wearing them with a loose top over, so i lift the top layer and lower the bottom to feed... IYSWIM

JollySergeantJackrum · 21/05/2011 20:52

I'm with Doris on this. I have about 10 cheapie Primark vests and am wearing them under my normal t-shirts. They come in lots of nice colours.

cece · 21/05/2011 20:54

I just wore my normal clothes - just avoided dresses Smile

I too have no shame!

Caz10 · 21/05/2011 20:55

Sorry I didn't explain myself properly, I have no shame either Grin!

Wasn't meaning what can I wear to hide my boobs, more just what can I wear that looks nice but actually also allows me access without undressing completely?! My entire pre-pregnany wardrobe seems to consist of tight tops/polo necks/anything else you can think of that is totally unsuitable!

ah! monsoon have some lovely v.neck vests/tops in pretty prints. maxi dresses everywhere are also easy for BF. i've also got some button through dresses (think 50s style housecoats) from vintage stores.

v or scoop neck are the easiest neckline for me... flash my cleavage and bf!

Caz10 · 21/05/2011 21:09

Yes I tend to be a pull the top down kind of gal, so I guess I should be looking for scoop necks. Hadn't thought re maxi dresses, that would be nice for the summer - just sick of dressing like a boy and dd2 is only a week old!

I've found that boob tubes underneath are easier than vests as there are no straps to piss about with.
But I only worry about this if I'm out and about, failing that I pull my top up or top/dress down :)

sodiumion · 21/05/2011 21:16

PS button up/zip up playsuits....... :)

JoyceBarnaby · 21/05/2011 21:41

Caz, I'm also looking for BF-friendly tops. I don't have any shame - with DS I BF anywhere and I fully intend to do the same with DC2, who is scheduled to make an appearance in about 6 weeks.

However, I was always a 'top up' rather than 'top down' sort of person, so vests and layering worked for me. I didn't care about boob exposure but no-one should be exposed to the hideousness of my belly!! So, maybe I should experiment more with 'top-down' this time - but didn't it stretch your clothes out of shape around the neckline?

I'm expecting to have to buy some new clothes because I've put on so much weight, so I'm very interested in this thread!!

DorisDoesntDance · 21/05/2011 21:45

just been on debenhams website... lots of pretty summer day dresses with a v-neck... button through/wraps or just a plunging neckline.

they'd all work for me - i vary top up/down depending on what i'm wearing!

WhipMeIndiana · 21/05/2011 21:48

I bought comfy cheap vests in asda, cut them with scissors under my boobs, and then wore another top over the top, when i needed to feed I lifted up the top one, and the bottom one kept my tummy and ass crack hidden. Grin

Caz10 · 21/05/2011 22:01

Lol at ass crack, although true, no-one needs to see my muffin top CFO any angle!
Debenhams good idea, hoping to order online as much as poss. Re neckline/pulling down, yes it did spoil the shape of some of the tops, which I think is why i've not held onto them since dd1 went down to just morning and bedtime feeds. Now on mat leave with dd2 I just think I'll be out and about a whole lot more in the presence of other judgy mums and want to look a bit smarter!

Oh someone on other thread has said asos do bf tops!

OP posts:
irishqueen · 21/05/2011 22:24

asos have feck all ... ladies you are missing a trick
sleeve feeding .... the bat wing!
cant link but in h and m under jersey tops shortsleeved t shirts i bought the floral number (bat wing looks see through ..although its not.. with hot model in shorts) at 7.99> reach in through sleeve and move to one side
im delighted. i bought a vest for underneath in case it was showing waist etc but it so doesnt.
i have bought up all of ebays finest but am sticking to this idea or button up tea dresses and a muslin tucked into bra strap first so as not to show to much norkage.
there was a crackin site called milkchic that linked to all the good clothes currently in high st but its getting revamped
my little one is 11 weeks and i am actually a yummy mummy (ish have 3 dcs lol)

Caz10 · 21/05/2011 23:15

Lol lol at sleeve feeding, best idea I have heard! Am child of the 80's, well teenager of them anyway, need NO encouragement to wear bat sleeves! Liking button down tea dress idea too, but have leg issues, is it still acceptable to be wearing leggings under?

I'm a big fan of White Stuff clothes- lots of pretty floaty tops and tunics. I still have all my old H&M maternity vests so usually wear one of them underneath as they are a longer length and keep everything hidden.

irishqueen · 22/05/2011 08:32

Seriously sleeve feeding rocks! Primarni have many suitable tops! Also loads of gypsy tops and dresses for pull down

msbossy · 22/05/2011 08:46

I'm big-boobed, saggy-bellied and have a very messy feeder so for me it's floaty tops or t shirts over a breastvest (typing one-handed on phone so can't provide link but bought mine from nct shop) all covered up with a homemade feeding shawl :-)

Caz10 · 23/05/2011 11:49

Right, I must attempt to get to the shops!! I have just ordered 4x topshop maternity vests as they were v handy last time - stretchy at the top, long enough to cover tum at the bottom!

ilovemydogandMrObama · 23/05/2011 11:53

bravado tanks! they look like a camisole....

Caz10 · 23/05/2011 12:13

Oooh just googled, they look great!

OP posts:
JoyceBarnaby · 23/05/2011 16:13

I loved my Bravado cami tops last time - they were comfy, supportive and easy to layer with other tops due to their slightly longer length. I ended up with 3 and I will definitely use them again this time. Every other 'top' specifically designed for BFing was useless and I wouldn't bother again (hence my interest in this thread about normal clothes that allow easy BFing!!) but I must admit, these were really handy.
