what winding technique works for you? I've tried so many positions but my 7wo daughter still struggles to get her wind up. Tried infacol and gripe water but although they help a bit if she's really struggling nothing seems to work.

Could it be that she needs to pass wind rather than burp?

is there a way of assisting her with that? There's a good chance that's the problem

I think sometimes you can wind too lightly. My DH used to really sort of "smack" them on the back quite quickly, and they did massive burps!
Obviously I don't mean to actually "smack"them or hurt them IYKWIM,just to be quite "firm" in the patting technique.
Also imagine their wind pipe and try to keep it 'straightened' to assist in the exit route!

a little squeeze round the middle helps with mine. straight back, one hand front, one back...

You have my sympathy!! My now 4-month old daughter was and still is an incredibly windy baby - the best thing I can say is that as she grows it will get easier and easier. My DD didn't even burp properly until she was around 8 weeks old. I basically used several different positions and cycled through them all:

  1. Classic over the shoulder pat and rub on back
  2. Sitting up on knees pat and rub on back
  3. Baby sit-ups - the most effective method when she was very small. Basically sit her on your knee and gently move from lying flat to sitting up and bending as far forward as possible, supporting head and back at all times. I would spend hours doing reps of 10 and if I got 2 reps of 10 without any air coming up she was ready to settle.
  4. Swivels - sit on knee, support head and back and make a circular motion with her upper body
  5. Face down across knees, with the leg that is under the tummy slightly higher, rub and pat on back.
  6. Nappy change - still very effective for getting up a stuck one.
  7. Quick feed - some how getting a bit of milk and more air into the tummy can help get a stuck burp out

Last resort - pop in sling and go for a walk!
