Could we have thrush?

I'm bf my 4 wk old dd and my nipples have always been a bit sore when she feeds nothing excruciating but it's uncomfortable. I'd put it down to early days of bfing, but dd has always had a whitish covering on her tongue. I also get a sensation in one of my armpits (like someones pulling string out of it!) Does it sound like thrush? Shall I book an appt at the docs for tomorrow?

Was on a lot of anti-biotics on the run up to her being born, do you think this may be to do with it

Does sound like thrush. Ask your doc for an anti-candida cream to put into your littles mouth & onto your nipples as well. Wash all clothes, bedding, towels etc at 60 or more to wipe out any candida organisms. Sterilze any dummys & teats. To get some good bactera back in your system after the antibiotics ask for some bifidous (think this is how you spell it?) tablets and/or have those actimel yogurt drinks.

Rodeo, my DD had thrush at about 4 weeks too, I also thought it was just a milky tonuge and felt terrible when I realised that she must've been suffering with it for at least a couple weeks before I suddenly realised what it must be. I figured that I'm new to this baby thing so I shouldn't beat myself up about it too much.

Not a clue about the armpit thingie though, sorry.

Hi Rodeo,
The armpit pain may mean that you have thrush in your milk ducts, too. I had that a few weeks ago, and it is nasty stuff which needs to be got rid of! I posted a message and someone gave me a really good link, which I took to my GP. You need to get miconazole cream for your nipples, gel for your dd's mouth and tablets for you too, if you have thrush in your milk ducts. Keep an eye out for a really persistent nappy rash too, as that can go with it sometimes. I'll try to find a link to my messages.
Also, think about going to your health visitor - is she any good? Mine turned out to be far more clued up about thrush and best treatment practice than my GP. The HV can prescribe everything except the tablets, but they can sort out a GP prescription for that for you.

Hope this works!
