Mucus in nappy - formula or teething?

Hi LO has been on formula now for maybe 6 weeks (is now 20wks and 13lb at weigh in last wk). He screams when bottle finished until burped or filled nappy (which is almost immediate after feed and often just mucus or very mucusy) then is a happy chappy. Had put the mucus now to teething as also has rosy cheeks, nappy rash, lots of drool, is irritable and chews on anything he can find, but am new to formula and am concerned it could be an allergy. I am uncomfortable turning to HV as we fell out due to LO's supposed slow weight gain (forcing me to abandon breastfeeding sooner than I would have liked). Stool sample was normal 2 weeks ago (checked as blood in stools for 2 days). Also early weaning (as advised by GP due to supposed slow weight gain), but it's not the solids he has a problem with (had baby porridge and sweet potato so far). What do you think?

My DD is 21 weeks and she has been bottlefed since day 2. This sounds very much like her nappies at the moment and she is teething they also smell foul at times! I have mentioned it to my sister who has 3 kiddies and is also a trainee HV she said hers were the same when they were teething so I don't think it is anything you need to worry about.

My docs provide a ring back service for things like this - if your worried you could always see if your docs offer this service rather than booking an appointment.

Thanks...every day is a new challenge eh? Just when I think I am getting the hang of something, he changes his routine or starts teething! My Mum says I worry excessively but then feel like I am all alone (she is 350miles away and hubby works long hours) so nice to have some reassurance.

It's certainly not easy but very worth it! I never stop worrying and I know a few new mums who are exactly the same. It would be much easier if they came with a manual.

Have you got a local sure start centre or mother and baby groups? I find these really helpful for just getting out of the house and not feeling so isolated. Or perhaps see if there are any other mumsnet mums in your area that might be able to meet up with you.

Thanks Limy. I am trying to be involved in as many things as possible but there is not much around and if I am honest, sometimes it makes it worse to listen to other mum's who all seem to be coping wonderfully and have everything under control!

And yes, if you come across a manual please send it my way! Lol!
