Stopping bottle feeding

OK. My DD is 2.6 years old and still wants a bottle whenever she is tired or upset. She happily drinks out of a cup most of the time but still demands a 'bot' at others. Can anyone help as she bites through the teats and is obviously getting far to old to be still having a bottle but I find the tears upsetting?

Personally I would go cold turkey but it sounds like you might find this a bit harsh. Could you perhaps find a baby who "doesn't have any bottles" to donate them to. Maybe buy her a fancy new cup at the same time. And then persevere.

Can you use a spout on the bottles instead of a teat as a transition. At about that age (when dd had gnawed through all the teats and spouts) I just started giving it to her in a special mug and although she started to drink less milk her appetite for food increased.

The main problem we have is me. I am epileptic and stress is one of the things that sends me over the edge. Upset DD = fitting mum We have started trying to not give her a bottle - down to one very chewed teat - but she refuses to drink milk out of the spout cups. Anything else but not milk (She still will only drink SMA milk as well.

In that case I'd pick a weekend when your dh/dp is around and go cold turkey on offering only full fat milk in a mug. If she really needs it she'll drink it but tbh she may just choose not to have it and you'll just need to make sure she compensates with cheese, yoghurt etc.

DH is main carer for DD as he is a stay at home dad. Unfortunately that is one of the reasons I tend to give in to her demands - guilt is a wonderful thing.
