When did your period return if breastfeeding?

My DD is 9 months old now and I'm pretty sure that I'm about to get my period (all the signs are there).
Is this about the average time for it?

I've read that if you are exclusively breastfeeding your baby, including nightfeeds then you might not get your period back till after a year? I am baby led weaning DD and she eats very little and hasn't dropped any feeds at all yet, so I'm rather suprised to get my period back so quickly.

I've also read that if you are co-sleepign and slinging (which I suppose increases the amount of breastfeeding you do) it's unlikely to happen this early either. I do these too.

I got my period back with DS when he was 8 months, but altough he was also BLW, he ate much more than DD, and had dropped a feed at this point, and also cut out a nightfeed, so I kind of expected it.

Anyway just a bit surprised, but would like to know what other's experiences are?

wow how interesting that it varies so much! I have really hoped period would stay away for at least a year. Coping with it whilst looking after 2 little ones, most days I don't even have time to go to the loo, is going to be pretty difficult.

I can take Ibuprofen can't I?!

Mine came back at 6 months (I bf until 13 months) just as I started weaning but hadn't dropped any feeds yet. I asked HV and she said that was average.

yesterday and I am not happy Angry dd is 6 wks old!! 6 wks I tell you, wtf? even more Angryface.

DD is baby#6 and I co sleep, wear her, exc bf, never normally get them back until a month after the last ever feed.

Am thinking its cos I'm ancient now, (44) Perhaps mother natures way of trying to squeeze in more ovulation.

about 8 weeks with dd and think it was similar with ds (but it was a long time ago). Both ebf on demand but both good sleepers, so feel it's a small but annoying price to pay for a decent nights sleep!Wink

you can indeed take ibruprofen

DD1, fed on cue, periods returned 23mths (then conceived DD2)

DD2, fed on cue, periods returned 20mths (conceived this one 3mths later)

EBF - after a few months. Couldn't have been more surprised. It was the middle of the night and I had to go and look up a book to check that I wasn't bleeding to death.

At around 8 months, but my fertility returned at about 5 months!

9 months here, EBF, mainly traditional weaning (lunch is BLW) still waiting. hoping they will return when she drops her night feed (day feeds disappearing at rate of knots) as would like to TTC soon-ish.
