for new baby to stop feeding for hours at a time?

i feed every 2 hours through the night and several hours solid every evening. in the morning she's better, although usually sleeping off a tough night. Hmm she's 3 weeks old.

she's my 3rd - i can't remember what happened with my first two but they weren't this bad! my nipples have been chewed to smithereens! they actually feel like they have carpet burn.

i need tips for getting her to go longer between feeds that doesn't involve any crying.

can't stand crying. no crying in my house.

Hi Warthog - I only have the one DC so don't have your experience, but he is only 4 mo, so it is all fresh in my mind! He started to feed less frequently around the 8 week mark I think. I don't have any tips for spacing out feeds - ahve you tried a dummy in case he is comfort sucking? I know not everyone likes dummies...

We also have no crying in our house Grin

After 6 wks and again after 3 months things got a lot less time consuming.

Really at this age I would just feed her rather than try to discourage feeding - their stomachs are tiny at this stage.

Do you have a sling? Being snuggled up close to you may be as good for her as comfort feeding or you could try feeding in the sling. Stretchy wrap is good for a newborn.

i'm not trying to discourage feeding, i'm trying to discourage using me as a dummy.

with 2 other kids i don't have the luxury of sitting on the sofa all day. right now the school run takes me 2+ hours between tantrums of the older 2 and trying to feed little one on every frigging bench we come across.

my experience of slings: they're so nice and comfy that baby ends up sleeping all day and awake all night...

your baby can't sleep all day in a sling unless you wear the sling all day :) I used one to be able to make dinner, when a baby was feeding for comfort/to get to sleep and I didn't have time to sit still, or when they wanted to cluster feed in the evenings, I would sling one for an hour or so to give me a break.

but yes, it did get easier around 6 weeks for me both times, so you're halfway there!
