So my right boob seems to have shut up shop ...

DS is nearly 8 mo. When he was about 3 mo he suddenly decided he preferred my left boob. It has always been slightly larger than my right and more markedly so since bfing.

For the last few months he would sometimes feed on the right (usually when dopey) but more often than not would pull off and fuss. I always offer the right first as I know they suck strongest at the start of a feed, then swap to left when he fusses, then right again, but in the last few weeks he's barely fed on the right at all. Instead of fussing, he pulls off, looks at it thoughtfully and starts twiddling it with his fingers Hmm

I don't express much but when I do I get markedly less from the right. The size difference is quite noticeable too (I've stopped wearing Breton tops and DH calls me Kim Basinger Hmm).

DS has never had any formula and is doing v well on solids.

Is it OK to just feed from one side? And am I doomed to have hilariously lopsided norks? Blush Has anyone had the same experience? I've read that the size thing evens out when you stop bf - is this true?

Hopeful bump in case there are any wonky-norked MNetters out there ... Grin

DS has been feeding from one side for about the last 5 months - I think it started that we both had a preference for one side and he just got used to it. There was still milk from the unfavoured one- but a lot less/harder to get I think - and I could never really express. It didn't seem to be a problem (i asked on here too!)
I kept trying to use it though - he would struggle and refuse, bite (deliberatley) - although he would take it if he was leaning the right way (if that makes sense).

Oddly he has now started taking it again- nowhere near as much as the other but will actually feed.

Re Lop-sided - I think I am but no-ones really commented and since the unfavoured boob still has milk its not hugely notcieable (although I may be conning myself)

Another one sided bfer here Smile

tbh, I think the lopsidedness is something that you'll be more aware of than anyone else.

CountBapula · 13/05/2011 13:31

I'm sure you're right crikey. Also hoping that wearing proper bras will help once I stop bfing (or if not, a single chicken fillet thingy will have to do Grin)

Me too, normally will take the right at night when he's too tired to notice :) It seems to have adjusted though and I don't look too lopsided (I hope).

dycey · 13/05/2011 13:34

Mine was exactly the same - right always smaller and eventually he stopped bothering with it. We were fine feeding on the left only for 6 months (but he fed at night till 12 months) so maybe wasn't getting enough in the day? Now not b feeding and not v lopsided. As before.

Planning to feed as much as poss from the right this time and express but guess same will happen!

Sam1975 · 13/05/2011 14:43

Exactly the same here...I expressed since birth until 2 weeks from the "unfavoured" one until 2 weeks ago (DS is now 5 months) as I thought that would increase the supply and reduce lopsidedness - in vain....I have now decided to not bother anymore..(but am dreading the bikini season!!!) and according to BF counsellor its ok to BF from one only (she compared it to twins who also effectively only have one each). DS seems very content and weight gain has been the same compared to when I was feeding on both sides.

CountBapula · 13/05/2011 16:53

Excellent, thank you ladies. Was a bit worried I would be starving him only feeding him from one, although he is very contented and putting on weight fine. Very reassured now.

Glad you've been reassured CountBapula Smile
