Losing interest in breast

Hello all, just looking for some thoughts.

DS2 is 9 months old and EBF. All has been well and since weaning (he is a really good eater) we have settled down to a 4 feed a day routine - first thing in the morning, just before nap, after lunch/before afternoon nap and just before bedtime. This has felt fine. But over the last couple of days he's been really uninterested in the breast. Last night he barely took a feed at all, was lack-lustre this morning and again nothing doing before his nap. He is still eating well and is perfectly perky in himself so he's not poorly and he has gone down fine and is fast asleep so wondering whether this is the end? Don't want to give up BF but concerned about what this not feeding might be doing to my supply.

Any ideas? Thanks.

By this stage I was down to BF morning and night only. If he's eating well he's probably just not very hungry. Try offering him just morning and night?

9 months is prime time for distractability from bfing (so many exciting things to do/chew/dribble on!). Kellymom has some info here on how to deal/cope.

Personally I wouldn't drop any feeds, unless you wish to wean soon, as BM should still be the single largest part of your son's diet until 12m. Offering feeds at other times will help prevent premature weaning (ceasing to bf not starting solids) as will offering to nurse at non-hunger times (e.g. if your son falls over, is ill, suffering from teething pain, is tired/over-stimulated/apprehensive).
