Dreamfeed

Hi

I always change my dd's nappy before I dreamfeed her so she's half awake when I feed her(breastfeed). I also dont want her to sleep with wet nappy from 7pm - 7am even though we use Pamper's 12hr protection nappy

She gets upset when I change her nappy and I'm starting to think maybe I shouldn't change her nappy and try and feed her in sleep.

I'm curious what others do for their dreamfeed and when did/do you intend to stop it?

We've started weaning her 2 weeks ago (she's 26weeks) I'm slightly worried if I stop she might start waking up during the night...

I don't change my DS's nappy in the night if I can help it as it just wakes him up too much. He fights going to bed until 9ish so is in the same nappy 9-7ish. We also use the Pampers 12hour ones.

If I could get him to sleep before 9ish then I would probably do a dreamfeed, but as it is I just feed him back to sleep if he wakes in the night. He never used to, but since I started weaning him his sleep has gone to pot and he regularly wakes a couple of times a night now Sad

I'm hoping that once his tummy starts to settle down with the solids and is starting to take in a few more calories his sleep may go back to how it used to be.

I never changed ds's nappy in the night - just picked him up asleep for the dreamfeed and fed him in his sleep. Stopped it at 8 months after spending a week or so bringing it earlier every night, from 11pm to 9pm, and then stopped.

never changed a night nappy except for poo. am doing dreamfeed right now - pick up sleeping baby, who startles. offer breast, allow them to latch and feed. pop back in cot with a bit of bum patting. easy :)

(I won't mention ds1 who wouldn't go back in cot)

We didn't change DD's nappy at night once we were sure it wasn't going to leak - we just tried it and would have gone back to changing it if it had leaked. Going up a size in nappies can help too. We stopped dream feeding about 2 weeks ago at 7 1/2 months as a friend said that she just stopped and her DD didn't wake up, so we thought we would try it too. We will never know whether we could have stopped sooner. You could always try not doing a dream feed as an experiment and seeing if it makes any difference. If you are formula feeding and would find it a problem to have to make up a bottle at short notice if your DS wakes a bit later looking for it then keep a carton of ready made milk handy for that night.

I think that there are lots of changes at this age which contribute to waking at night. DD occasionally wakes herself by getting up on all fours, crawling about or sitting up in her sleep.

Good luck!

I have always changed DDs nappy before dreamfeed but have now also decided to stop because just recently her eyes just pop open as soon as I start doing it and she can take a bit of settling afterwards, whereas when I just feed her her eyes are.closed and she goes straight back to sleep after.

I have always felt.uncomfortable leaving her in a wet nappy overnight but it doesn't seem to bother her and the nappy doesn't leak

We had to for ages as no nappy seemed to contain the wee til morning, but now we seem to have cracked it with the latest brand so I've stopped changing him and just dreamfeed now.

Only change the nappy if poo is involved!

One other thing you may or may not have thought of - change her nappy with full on singing and dancing and waving of toys. Once I had stopped trying to change DDs nappy quietly she was no longer upset about getting it changed, and the fact we'd had a party before the dreamfeed in no way affected her abiliy to go back to sleep. I may just be lucky, but could be worth a try if you haven't thought of it.

Thanks for your advice ladies,

I just thought she might be waking up during the night because of heavy wet nappy...

I'll try getting one size up nappy and leave it til the morning
