Best electric pump to buy?

I am mix feeding DD (11 do) with expressed breast milk & formula top ups due to problems with BF.

Am concerned about my milk drying up and BF support worker advised expressed between 6-8 times per day to keep supply going. Problem is at the moment I only have a tommee tippee manual pump and am finding it tiring using it so often and also I only seem to produce about 2 ounces in a sitting (roughly an ounce each side) which is not enough to keep up with demand so having to do about 50/50 with formula.

Would an electric pump get more from me in a shorter time and if so which would be the best type to get, I don't want to spend an absolute fortune but I want something effective and reliable. Thanks in advance :)

I have hired an Ameda Egnell hospital grade from Ardo Medical, we have a local rep in the town where I live. It cost £46 for the first month (because of the attachment required (milk catchers (don't know technical term!)) and then £26 a month thereafter, it has worked out more expensive than a shop bought pump but I can double express so am saving time, ds is now nearly 14 weeks. If you are near a sure start centre, they may have ones that you can borrow/hire which may be cheaper.

I had a tommee tippee electric expressor and returned it after 3 days as it kept pulling my milk through the electric power pack which didn't seem too safe! I then googled the problem and saw lots of people had the same issue.

Congratulations on your dd!

I agree with Pootle

The convenience of the double hospital grade rental ones are worth the money IMO, especially if you really want to do this long term and it involves expressing 6-8 times. Even if it's just for a month to boost your supply up. It would also give you peace of mind if you switch to fully FF that you gave expressing the best shot you could. I nearly cried when I made the decision to return mine and can never imagine going back to a manual or single electric.

The NCT also do pump hire as well, have a look on there website to find your local group and there should be some close to you who stores the pumps.

Actually the phone no is hear.

I've come accross a number of people who don't seem to get on very well with the tommy tippee pumps. It all depends on your breast and nipple shape and it's improtant to have one that fits you well. Their is more info on the Melda website in relation to this. Some people also find hand expressing more effective then any pump so you may want to try this as well.
