Finally!! Bottle success at 7 months!

DD has been an adamant bottle refuser after I delayed introducing it for too long in fear of messing up the breastfeeding. Whilst I was happy to breastfeed, feeding her every 2 hours with no chance to hand her over to someone else for a couple of hours was more than a little frustrating.

I read on MN recently how someone had had success drinking out of a bottle in front of their dc, resulting in their dc snatching the bottle and downing it. I decided to try similar, but with water (as I can't stand milk, and DD has been a great water drinker since weaning began). I used a tommee tippee bottle, with a massive hole cut in the teat so that the water dripped out quite freely. Result! She completely understood the purpose of the bottle and drank the water!

Now I have switched back to a fast flow teat (number 3) with milk in the bottle, and DD is wolfing down an afternoon bottle with no complaints at all. I never thought we'd get here, and have now got a new lease of life being able to go out in the evenings without worrying that I'll have to do a mad dash home to feed if she wakes up.

Just thought I'd post in case someone else can benefit from this, as I read so many posts about people going back to work about now and stressing as their babies won't take bottles - there is hope!!

That's great to know - there is a lady at my baby cafe who is struggling to get her DD to take a bottle - I'll give her your pearls of wisdom.

Maybe I'll give that a go. My DS is a nightmare - he has gone through 3 stages of a few days each of having a bottle but then suddenly refusing, but the last time was quite convincing so I stopped feeding him during the day. Of course, after I had gone through the adjustment with my supply he then started refusing again. I'm going back o work in a month so there is no point in trying to get my supply back and going back to daytime feeding, so he's getting no milk during the day other than what I sneak into his food. So frustrating and worrying. I feed him at bedtime, dreamfeed and morning so I hope he's getting enough... would love him to have an afternoon bottle and for DH to be able to put him to bed after a bottle!
