dd is 3 weeks old, feeding well (ebf).
there was initial discomfort while we learnt positioning but it has been painfree for 2 weeks.
Suddenly one nipple is very sore in a burny tingly way when feeding, and it lasts a while afterwards. You can't see anything on it and there is no whiteness in dd's mouth. But I am pretty sure it's thrush as it was fine before and feels very different from the pain of poor positioning at the beginning.
I grabbed a friday afternoon appointment at the GP thinking I should get a prescription before the weekend and was patronised to death,
Told it wasn't thrush but just a "very sore cracked nipple" (bollocks - I have had very sore cracked nipples, with skin hanging off after feeding, and this is intact looking) (this was by the way the diagnosis of another dr in another room who didn't even see me but sent word back to try, presumably, lansinoh - some cream she couldn't remember the name of)
Was grudgingly prescribed a fungicide / steroid cream for the nipple (because I pushed) - nystaform hc - which I was told to use for a week and not feed on that side
I said: really? Not feed on one side for a week? Actually I stupidly said "I think that's bad advice, surely, for long term breastfeeding?" dr got v. pissed off with me questioning her AUTHORITAH and went off to rope in a sidekick to put me in my place.
The sidekick came back and said use the cream if you must, don't feed on that side till it has healed and express in the meantime.
Sounds well dodgy to me.
Then the pharmacist said that cream is contraindicated for breastfeeding.
So what do I do next? I want a. to get a proper diagnosis (I don't believe this doc is qualified to say it's not thrush as she obv knows nothing about breastfeeding); b. if it is thrush, get a prescription and a regimen to treat me and dd at the same time, yes? How do I go about getting this?
Thanks everyone
