White tongue, poor latch, dribbling, but not thrush?

Hi,
Anyone got any suggestions for a baby with a white coating on her tongue, poor latch/pulling off and lots of dribbling? My SIL's DD is 5 weeks and has all the above. I thought i seemed similar to thrush as when my DD had it but she's been GP today who doesn't know what it is, says it's not thrush and she's to ask her HV.
Bbay is 5 weeks, putting weight on well, she is breastfed then topped up with formula at each feed apart from night feeds where she has only formula. Personally I think the poor latch might be down to this, but I'm really no expert and I'm worried about upsetting SIL as she's done really well to get this far so don't really want to knock her confidence without being sure I'm right, IYKWIM.

Any ideas greatly appreciated!

Has she been checked for tongue tie?

if its not thrush then it might just be from the milk coating the tongue, I would get her to a bfing support group asap, why is she topping up so much?

I'm not sure why she's topping up, she struggled with horrible cracked nipples for the first few days so FF her, then started back with the BFing but with the top ups. I gently suggested she tries to gradually wean off the bottles (or go cold turkey and just BF which is what I did with DD) but she didn't seem keen on the idea. I have also recommended BFing support group, it was invaluable for me and helped me so much but again she doesn't seem keen. I'm trying to offer her support and assistance without her feeling like I'm being too pushy, not easy as she is quite defensive at the best of times and at the moment is still very sensitive (overdue baby, difficult birth/section and utter shock at the reality of looking after a newborn) but I still want to help her.
Will mention tongue-tie and support groups. Would milk coating be there all the time? Because its constantly on there.

If it is thrush then your sil would prob end up on her nipples as well, if she is unsure with the diagnoses then go and see a different gp. Def needs to wean off ff but can imagine it is difficult to offer advice without seeming pushy! I think like all new mums she will prob find her own way and hopefully will ask for your advice/ help when she is ready to hear it.
