Weaning one year old from breast but refusing any other milk - eeek!

advice please! My one year old was on three feeds a day (7am, 1pm and 7pm) but I have recently dropped the middle feed and I am replacing it with cow's milk and then I was going to move on to replacing the other feeds. Sounds easy?
Unfortunately my little one is not following this plan and will not drink any other milk (cow or formula) in any great quantities. In addition to this he is a fussy eater and only eats posh spice sized portions. I really don't know what to do. All the guidance talks about simply replacing one type of milk with another. So what do you do if this does not happen. My heart is telling me to give him the boob again but I really don't want to be BF him until his teens. My head is telling me to keep going with trying to give him milk and he won't starve himself.

I've tried different cups and bottles but none of these seem to be making any difference. In fact when I tried a bottle he was blown away by the teat and could not stop biting and flicking it - amazing as he happily drank EBM when he was younger.

I know that eventually he will wean himself if I continue to BF but I am kind of ready to stop now.

What do you do when your babe does not follow the manual?

When I first weaned DD off the boob at 12 months she drank very little cow's milk - about 50-75 ml in the morning and refused any at night. She had already dropped feeds during the day herself.

Gradually over time she drank more and more and now she has 250-300ml in the morning and about 150ml at night.

There is a whole thread about the growing up milk today with different opinions about whether or not it is necessary, but I used this to get her back into the habit of having milk before bed. I know they don't need to have the bedtime milk if they don't want it, but it felt strange putting her to bed with no milk. She would take 200ml of the ready made Aptamil before bed. I gave it to her for a few nights to get her into the habit and then moved back to cow's milk.

I have bought so many cups to try and get her to take milk from a cup as she wouldn't let me put a bottle in her mouth so I know exactly what you're saying.

After stressing so much about the weaning (took two months before she would eat) I decided to just go with the flow regarding the milk.

Good luck. I hope you find a solution.

Thanks pink toenails! I appreciate your advice.

I'll keep going with offering milk. It is reassuring to know that your daughter built up how much milk she drank. I have found that formula is more successful than cows milk - obviously he Is used to sweet milk!
