Is biting inevitable now teeth have made an appearance?

Bottom two just through no biting yet...my friends all seem to have horror stories and one friend with a very persistent biter whose baby drew blood and she ended up with a hot infected nipple - is it a matter of time?

I'm guessing top front are going to be too much of a temptation for dd when they surface - my eyes are watering at the thought

Not necessarily! You might get a few nibbles while your baby gets used to having teeth but I've certainly never had blood drawn and my DD1 has all her baby teeth now. The only time I got nipped is when she had a cold and couldn't breath through her nose so she kind of held on to my nipple with her teeth while she took in a quick breath. This happened two or maybe three times. They soon learn not to bite the boob that feeds Grin

Some people say to push the baby on to your breast if they bite, then they can't breath and so let go but I never had any luck with that. For me I found the best way was to quickly jam my little finger in DD1's mouth to break the latch and then get my nipple out of the way.

It wasn't for me. She has 4 teeth for the past 3 months and never bit.

I was nervous and kept an eye on her at the end of feeds when she was most likely to mess but never happened (yet!).

The two bottom teeth are covered by the tongue when dc is feeding so it's less likely now anyhow. Just suck on your own thumb to see how the bottom teeth get covered.

Fingers crossed your dc doesn't bite either.

DD has had her top two teeth for three weeks and the bottom two for 2 months. I've not been bitten yet.

I was never bitten either.

DS has got all his teeth through very quickly and he's only ever bitten me 4 or 5 times and that was in the few days after the teeth broke through so he was adjusting his latch. When he has done it, I've jumped so violently that it gave him (and me!) a real scare and he didn't do it again!

So no, not inevitable - DS is 16 months now and has 12 teeth and still no biting.

Not necessarily! You will get a few nips but I was advised that when it does happen you are to be firm about it - say "no" firmly, remove the baby from the breast and stop feeding for a while (I managed to stop feeding for about 3 seconds as I felt guilty but that seemed to be another to get the message across). I must say that it is pretty scary having a gaping, toothy mouth coming straight for your nipple but you just have to relax and pay attention to their feeding. My nibbles always seemed to come towards the end of the feed. My friends who seemed to suffer more from it appeared to me to be a little wimpy with telling their babe not too do it. Of course you don't want to terrify them but you want them to know that biting is a big no-no!
To tell the truth on the few occasions it did happened my response was pretty instant and the message got across quickly.

My son has just turned one with eight little nashers and I have not been nipped for ages and don't even worry about it anymore.

Good luck!!
