Pains in breasts...?

I'm exclusively BF 6 week old DS (1st baby) and in the last 24 hours am getting these pains which are new.

These are like shooting pains but are fairly mild - I'd describe them as more than a 'twinge', but less than a 'pain'. No problems with nipples and DS is feeding as normal.

Because it's not excruciating, and he and I seem to have no other symptoms I don't think it can be thrush (can it?), so does anyone know what it might be, or if it's just a normal thing that will go away? I don't want to rush to the docs if this will go away alone or if I can try to do anything to solve it at home in the first instance - thus any ideas gratefully received!

probably not the most informed to answer this but someone more knowledgeable will be along soon but...

I have a 6 week old (6 weeks tomorrow) DD and am also exclusively BF. I get a pain/twinge similar to the one you describe right before my boobs get uncomfortably full - i assumed it was just my boobs preparing for LOs dinnertime.

It might well be thrush. I am just getting over a really bad bout of thrush which started with similar pains which I ignored (should have known better really as I have had thrush quite a few times before). Doctors might be reluctant to give you any treatment given that you have no other symptons but there is nothing to stop you self treating before it gets worse.

However, as Catherine said, it might be nothing sinister at all.

Thanks for the responses Smile

1Catherine1 sadly it's not down to engorgement - there doesn't seem to be a pattern of when I'm feeding / how full they are.

TryHarder Ah bugger. I had hoped it def. couldn't be thrush but it sounds possible then Sad I am going through the Breastfeeding Network leaflet on thrush treatment and will go to the docs armed with that if it gets any worse. Hopefully though it'll be nothing much at all and will just go away on its own...

actually I popped on to say I actually think LO and I have thrush - so ignore my post, I'm off to the doctors to see. After I read your post I did some reading on the symptoms and my DD has a few and I obviously have those pains so I'm going to check.

So thanks for your post otherwise I wouldn't have known.
