Hi,
My baby is on Cow and Gate comfort milk and Ive noticed that if I make up feeds and put them in the fridge the milk seperates until I shake it.
Just wondered if this is normal?

Thanks x

Think it's the potato starch in it .

BTW not recommended to make in advance & store in fridge

I have never made up a feed and left it in the fridge.
Guidelines state we sBecause this was a PITA, I used to put boiled water in the bottles, cool them in a bowl of cold water and keep them in the fridge, then add powder when I needed the feed and warm in mocrowave.
Not saying this is what you should do, because they have guidelines in place for a reason, but that's what I did.

The bugs are in the powder silvery, not the water.

The water needs to be hot when the powder goes in to heat up the powder & reduce the bacteria levels in the powder. Cos some bacteria will still remain, the feed should be then used straight away so they get less chance to multiply.

With 'comfort' milk the added starch (which is only there to slow the flow of milk - nowt to do with any magic effect on baby's digestion !) needs to be heated to make it mix

Unless the comfort milk is different to normal formula you can absolutely make feeds up and put them in the fridge.

With normal formula you make the bottles up with hot water, 70 degrees or hotter (same as boiling the kettle and using the water within half an hour) then flash cool them, just in cold water in the sink and put in the bottom of the fridge at the back. You need to use them within 24hours.

Like I said this is for normal formula I don't know if it's different for the comfort stuff!

Hope that helps.

I know that finally I was just telling OP what i did. You will notice that I also stated that that is not what I thought she should do, just what I did.

Thanks for your replies everyone, I started a rather lengthy thread on the subject of how people make up their bottles. I used to make mine up like silvery moon because I was under the impression that it was the water that was the problem not the formula,I have only just been informed about the 70 degree water needing to destroy any bacteria in the formula so I decided I needed to change the way I was making up the bottles and decided that although the fridge thing isnt the 'best' method it is the best compromise for me as the thought of waiting half an hour for the kettle to cool down with a screaming baby was not ideal....anyway thats another thread.

I just wondered if others had the milk splitting thing and if it was ok?

Thankyou :)
