Is it ok to take anadin extra when breastfeeding?

No.

AFAIK it contains aspirin which can cause a rare but fatal disease in babies. Check out The Breastfeeding Network Drug Fact Sheets for accurate, up to date info on what is and what isn't considered safe for bf mothers and babies. It is compiled by a registered pharmacist on behalf of BfN.

You should check with your GP if you have any other conditions.

No because of the aspirin, as PP said.

Ibuprofen or paracetamol are considered ok when breastfeeding. Anadin extra are crap anyway - a part dose of paracetamol, a part dose of aspirin, plus a bit of caffeine. Would opt for plain paracetamol instead generally.

Thank you both for your replies.
I never usually take tablets, but my headache was so bad that I took 2 tablets without thinking.
It was only later, that I considered whether they were ok to take when breastfeeding.

MGIHF - As far as I'm aware the danger with asprin and the under 16's is when it is taken when the child had a viral illness and/or has a metabolic disorder and the asprin appears to damage the mitocondria in the liver cells - this is called Reye's Syndrome. If your child isn't ill then it shouldn't do any harm but now you know for the future.
