Best breast pump?

I have the medela swing but find expressing frustrating as I don't get more than 3oz and it takes ages.
Thinking of getting a manual instead. Is the Avent isis any good?

Hello!

We've noticed this thread is quite old and some of the recommendations may be a little out of date. We've tested a whole host of products to find the best breast pump on the market right now.

Hope this helps! Flowers

I used an Avent with my first pregnancy. Couldnt get anything off. Am now using a Spectra3 which is fab (£50 inc postage from Amazon). In 10 mins I get about 4/5 oz in the morning. I could get more but the bottle is only 5oz.

3oz is still a nearly a meal's worth. In fact DD largely had 3 oz bottles.

FWIW I found I only got more from pumps when using a double pump. Manuals and single electrics I got the same from, just the manual hurt my little hands.

Also it is completely personal, depending on boob shape and size etc. What works for one, might not work for another.

3oz is actualy quit good. You could try hand expressing or have a look at medela website I do know you need the right size funnal for the shape and size of your breasts. Maybe you need a different one.

But I've never managed more then about 2oz with a manual never tried an electric one as didn't need to express much.

Totally agree with Penguin. Had heard great things about the Isis, got one and couldn't express a drop and it hurt my small hands too.

I found the Ameda Lactaline very good, its a double electric.

I started off with the Tommy Tippee electric pump which wasn't very good - could easily take an hour to get 3-4oz. Now have the Avent manual pump which I find very good - can get 3-4oz in as little as 15 mins.

Do agree with posters above though, different pumps work differently for other people. The nice things with a manual pump are that they are not noisy, and you can vary the rhythm of the suction to imitate the way a baby feeds (obviously a pump will never be as efficient as a baby though).

You are so right about different pumps working for different people Bat and I found it much easier to vary the rhythm with my Lactaline than I did with the Isis.

I took back my tommee tippee electric as it was rubbish and kept sucking the milk up the air tube. I got the medela swing and it was fantastic in comparison- less pieces to put together and more efficient.

I had a tommee tippee electric which was ok, but now have an Ameda Lactaline which is brilliant.
