OK I have a ds 9mo who is bf for 12 hours of the day (over night) so last and first feed of the day. He was ebf however I have stepped away from this in order to a) get ready for work, b) wanting a bit more freedom back etc etc

Anyway the evening feed is fine and there is generally no problem however the morning and if I feed during the night have become quite painful. I haven't had any mastitis as far as I am aware (2nd dc), I haven't had painful boobs whilst not feeding, I know ds is a bit of a guzzler but am just curious as to why it has suddenly started to be painful. It isn't the nipple area its deeper in my breast. I am not aware of any lumps either in my boob.

It basically goes well starting off, then starts to hurt then tails off again which I am assuming is when he is no longer in voracious eating mode Grin. Any advice would be most welcome! However it is very different from previous feeding him when my boobs would "itch" before feeding and this would be relieved when feeding.

I would really prefer not to stop if I can!

chocolate you don't have to stop if you don't want to, what you need is some help.

Does the pain sound like any of this?

ChocolateEggyrolls · 23/04/2011 09:34

No JJJ, I initially thought that it could be that but it feels more achey when he feeds and I wonder if he is just sucking like a demon which is the cause? Only problem I also have is that expressing doesn't work for me so I wouldn't be able to tell if its any of the suggestions through the milk itself.

Have you spoken to a Bfing Counsellor about it?

ChocolateEggyrolls · 23/04/2011 09:42

Not yet, I haven't needed one so far with this dc or with my previous one and have never had any problems with bf so it hasn't really come up. I also know that he is definitely feeding so the milk supply is there but it has just become a little painful at times which is a bit off putting Smile

It would probably be worth giving one of the helplines a call, they may know what it is.

Hope you manage to find one. Know that you haven't had to use one before but they can be very, very good especially when it is something like this, that makes you feel like giving up and its not a sign of weakness to ask for help, thats what they are there for. If you can't find a local one the helplines are usually very good too.

Hope you find the support and information you need [bunsmile]
