THRUSH! have pills and drops - but nips so sore!

That's about it - ds 9 months old, bfs 3-5 times a day, before naps and bed, with maybe the odd snack here and there. Keen feeder.

He had an ear infection and was on antibiotics that gave him oral thrush. Nice pediatrician gave him nystatin and - when I realised 4 days later he'd passed it to me - gave me lots of lovely pills to sort it.

I don't have anything to put in my nips, though, which were already slightly sore as he's just got one of his top teeth and there's a bit of scraping at the end of a feed - now I'm miserably sore and I seem to remember lansinoh not good when there's thrush - is that right? I'm wincing when he latches on atm - it's like the first month all over again!

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Stupid paediatrician for not knowing you both need to be treated simultaneously!

Is the nystatin working? I found it a bit useless but daktarin oral gel did the trick. You also need either daktarin cream or canestan cream for your nipples. Do you have fluconazole too?

I'm sure you know this but scrupulous hygiene is essential to get rid of it - hot wash bras, muslins, comforters etc often, sterilise any dummies/cups/teats that go in your ds's mouth, and keep an eye out for a nappy rash too.

I've had Thrush 4 times since DD born (14 weeks) and have one nipple that is still quite sore. I find Daktarin cream is good combined with a bit of Lansinoh and soaking in warm baths with Aveeno oil in it and washing with it really helps.

possibly nipple shields as a very temporary measure? worked for me when i had thrush

The nystatin is definitely working - he had big white patches on his mouth and it's now gone. In fact, were it not for a day day when we went out and I forgot the medecine I think it would have cleared up and not infected me. DAmnit!

I have had a good peer and think that the worst scabby bits are actually DS's top tooth scraping me, but the general tenderness is thrush. I've got one more day of Fluconazole left, and I think it's on the mend. We'll see - am sterilizing, hot washing, etc like mad!

Glad things are improving - can be horrible! Agree with RitaMorgan - Daktarin gel and cream work wonders. I found the cream very soothing. Followed docs orders and carried on treatment for over a week after it appeared to clear up - problem solved. Also second Lots of baths and washing as westyorkshiregirl suggests.

as I'm in the USA I'm not sure what the equivalent of Daktarin would be - but thankfully the pain seems to have gone and I've finished the pills. Am going to continue dosing DS for a few more days, plus ironing all bras, etc (the iron's about to get a shock - I usually don't iron ANYTHING!).

I worked out yesterday that the sorest side is the bitten side - not as Thrush related as I'd thought - and also on the mend. Hurrah! :)
Thanks for your help.
