have glue ear, SPD & v sore after falling down the stairs. Paracetomol isn't touching it. What else can I take? Is it still ok to combine When bf?

You can take ibuprofen - lots of misinformation says not, but it's actually one of the recommended painkillers for mastitis pain, so safe for BF-ing. Aspirin is the one to avoid.

Here is leaflet from the breastfeeding network - www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/pdfs/BFN_Mastitis.pdf and advice from NHS - www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Mastitis/Pages/Treatment.aspx saying it is safe to take ibuprofen, because I know someone else will show up to say they'd heard you shouldn't take it....

Sorry for all of your aches and pains, you've got a fair bit on your plate there!

Thanks. Took Some now.

Can't remember what time i took the paracetemol either 2 or 5 so going to have to wait or wait for dh to phone as he was up too.

The hip/back/bruises I can avoid moving/touching but the ear ache is agony. Dh out until midnight ish so no help all day either

Thanks. It's 6m after birth. Physio bit flumoxed by it as she's only ever seen it go. GP thinks it's probably still hormonal as I'm breast feeding & I'm still having temparature control problems which seem to be hormonal.

Is that voltarol? Had it in hospital and it was good. Can you combine that?

had acupuncture alongside osteo but can't face it until my bruises etc have gone from the fall.

Had 2 falls now due to hip collapsing.

You can combine voltarol with paracetamol and with codeine, but NOT with iboprofen.

You can get voltarol OTC now, though, it's called Pain-Eeze Hmm. I think it's weaker than the prescription kind, but it's a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory, same as iboprofen, but stronger.

thanks. Earache subsided enough for me to go out. Going to go to town & get voltarol to add to my supplies.

Will go for a referral at some point but at least GP is aware it's still an issue .

You can take Voltarol while you are BF-ing (it's a standard painkiller for post CS pain, and plenty of us BF after a C section). Very good for joint pain, as others have said.

I didn't know you could get a version of it OTC, that's good news. Now I can stop pestering my arthritic mother for 'spares'.

HarrietJones · 20/04/2011 15:41

Thats when I had it in hospital- post c section.

Got some now, boots do their own £5.12 Shock

You can also take codeine - it's standard post-cs. Some advice now says no codeine if bfing but that's because one mother (in Canada I think) had a freak genetic abnormality that meant she metabolised it far too fast and no-one realised that seriously excessive sleepiness in both mother and baby was a sign something was wrong. The usual, more practical advice, is that mother and baby should be checked for excessive sleepiness and if in doubt, don't take more.
