Why won't he have a bottle?

my EBF nearly 6mo DS just will not have a bottle, I don't want to give up BF I just wouldn't mind the odd afternoon off or an evening out but whatever I do he just will not even entertain it. Tried loads of bottles and different teats, he just chews them and gets ratty. HV said ditch the bottles try a cup but having not much joy with these either, diody, free flow, sippy.... Have tried other people giving it to him but same thing happens. He has had them in the past, so it's not totally new for him.

Anyone got any tips or any bottles/cups the had success with? I using expressed....

If it is an afternoon, he will be okay without for a few hours.
Have you tried an open top cup at all? Ds2 LOVES these. Or even a straw?

You can always just leave him with food and water for a few hours.

Hadn't thought of a straw, will try. Have tried diody open top didn't really get it but guess I should persevere. At what age did your DS2 start using them?

Yes, probably should have said day not just afternoon, he would of course be fine.

Just a plain plastic beaker.

It is a bloody mess, but he loves it. Grin Has had water this way since about 7 mths.

RIta is right, he will be okay with food and water. Might make up for it at night - reverse cycling. Some babues do this as a way to make up the nursing time as well as the milk, iyswim?

If it is now and then, I wouldn't get too worried about it as he will make up his calories on other days.

Yep, thanks hadn't thought of it that way. Thanks for replying, will continue with a cup too so he gets used to it :)

DD never really took to milk from a bottle, at first I used Nuby cups which have soft silicone spouts with limited success then I bought a straw cup and she learn't how to suck from the straw. Superdrug one best (also not non-spill) and cheap at around £2, Avent do a non-spill straw cup (that leaks a little bit). At 7 months I was leaving DD all day with DH, after her early morning feed from me she only had one milk feed in the day and got the rest of her milk intake from breast milk mixed with cereal, yoghurt, cheese etc.. until I returned at 4.30/5pm. He would be fine left for a few hours with no milk if he will accept small amounts of baby rice mixed with ebm.
