Dropping Milk feeds too quickly?

DS is 7mo, and I have just started back at work. I am expressing for him but he?s refusing to drink milk at the CMs. We are putting the milk in his food so he is still getting it, but obviously not as much as if he was drinking it.

I had thought he would just reverse cycle but he doesn?t seem to be, and even over the weekend and my days off (am currently doing 3 days) isn?t asking for many feeds, He?s probably only asking for 2 or 3 but will take more if I offer them - which I am, but obviously can?t when I?m at work. I?m a bit worried he?s not taking in enough milk. What do you think? We are doing a mix of finger food and mashed up food, he takes a spoon from the CM quite happily, but prefers finger food at home.

I think I?m just wobbling because he?s out of my control now iyswim.

How many feeds a day is he getting then? I think I'd aim for 4 a day and make sure he eats lots of dairy and has milk in his food.

probably 4 a day but one would probably just a tiny get back to sleep one in the night.

bump. I'm worried about this too. dd 6.5mo and loves her food, 3 good sized meals a day but very short bfeeding sessions.

Same with my 7mo DD. She only has milk 6am and 6pm now - doesn't ask for any more in the day and when I have tried, she's not interested. She has 5oz milk in her porridge though and I make sure she has yogurts, cheese sauces, custards etc.

The HV has told me this is fine. I am, however a 2nd time mum and my DS also did this and hasn't suffered!

Thanks, a few rl people have told me similar stories so I am feeling better. Although he did take some today from the CM so maybe he'll come round to it :)

I could have written your post Cosmosis. DD is 7.5 months and I've just gone back to work. She also either refuses milk at the CM or will take a maximum of 2oz during the day. Has me very worried too but I feel a bit better after reading all the posts here.

My goodness, I'm so glad to read this post, just to know it's not just us!!! My ddis almost 6months and has been teething. Just cutting her second. Always been a bad milk drinker but the last 2 days (now into the 3rd) have been a nightmare! Just screws her head away from the bottle and cries. She's bound to be hungry!! Have been told it could be to do with teething but also that some babies just decide they don't want the bottle anymore! Trying to persevere with the introduction of a sippy cup but at the minute she's loving it more as something to chew on and the most of what milk comes out is going around her!! HV said to try making custard up with her milk which thank goodness she seems to love. Been told to aim for 16-20fl oz a day whether in food or drink. Doesn't seem a lot but it's proving hard work!!! Have to get milk slipped into every spoonfeed which is easier said than done. Trying to find nice recipes with milk or other dairy too, so if anyone knows of any nice ones, i would be very grateful!!!

Janmck1 - the custard thing is a good one! I make custard and mix it with fruit puree to up the milk intake. Cauliflower cheese is also popular. Sometimes I pile a load of grated cheese on the highchair tray as finger food and this goes down very well.

Just wanted to add that I think there's a lot of emphasis on babies getting their 20fl oz a day until they are a year old (which is important), but that we shouldn't forget that a lot of this can be in dairy products, i.e. it doesn't have to mean lots of milk feeds a day.
