Dd, 5 weeks has for the last few days been screaming her head of whilst bf, so much she turns a purpley blue, it's quite scary :( she's only getting 5 min feed every few hours. Took her to the doc this morning, he said it's just wind, but I'm worried she not feeding enough. She screams 24/7 and I'm strugling to cope with this and 2 other dc all alone :(

Oh dear, sounds very stressful...

Sorry just to be clear, is she screaming just when you try to feed, or all the time? Or all the time but worse when you feed?

Do you have a lot of milk? I had a problem for a while with DS where he screamed blue murder and kept pulling off during feeds, which we eventually figured out was due to oversupply (he just couldn't handle the flow). Not sure whether that is likely here, I would have expected it to start a bit earlier if so, but it could be I suppose. If you think that might be it, there are some things you can do to help a bit.

Another possibility is if she has a bad cold or bug - if she is struggling to breathe through her nose that could make feeding difficult I guess, or a sore throat or ears might be making swallowing painful. Did the doc check those?

That's all I can think of, but others may have some more ideas.

manic ds is also 5 weeks and is crying at the breast. i figured he does this when tired or has trapped wind. i take him off, lift his legs to see if he breaks wind, rock him so he calms down and then start again. usually works.

myname good advice re oversupply - i produce a lot of milk so this could be a problem.

Have you discounted acid reflux? Is she happier when held in an upright position rather than when lying down? If so, it may be worth investigating that.
