Do I need to wind a BF baby?

I'm a second timer but have completely forgotten everything. Also, DD1 had reflux so I'm not used to a 'normal' baby IYKWIM?

Do I need to wind DD2 before putting her down for a nao if she falls asleep on the breast? It seems a shame ti wake her when she's all full and snuggly.

A BF baby feeds on a closed system IYSWIM, so there shouldnt be too much air getting into her tummy. If she's asleep and comfy, I wouldn't wake her. She'll soon let you know if she's got any trapped wind!

I'd lean her against your shoulder and rub gently for a min or so. Just to check for any bubbles. But like Maresy says, it's unlikely that they'll have the full on wind that a FF baby would have

Mine has just gone to sleep on the breast and i do not wind her if she is sleepy.

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/04/2011 20:22

I think it depends on the baby. Mine never needs it but my friend's always does. Both BF.

RitaMorgan · 09/04/2011 20:23

Mine never really needed it - certainly not if he fell asleep on the breast.

Cosmosis · 09/04/2011 20:58

I never bothered if he fell asleep feeding.

Thanks everyone, I'll try putting her srraight down if she falls asleep on the boob and see how it goes.

DS needs winding. He is breast-fed but such a windy little thing. If we don't get it out at the top it works its way through to the bottom and gives him tummy ache.

eversoslightlytired · 11/04/2011 14:10

You sound like you could be me! DS had reflux and colic when bf and had to be winded (which was really hard to get him to do). DD is bf and has no colic or reflux but does need to be burped. She feeds really well but if she does fall asleep on the boob and I put her down without attempting to wind her, if she has got wind then her legs and arms automatically go up in the air so I pick her up and wind her. She generally stays asleep though whilst Im doing it!

I used to wind mine before a feed. Really cut down on possetting. I think they take in air when they're lounging around babbling Smile

AppleAndBlackberry · 11/04/2011 18:33

I don't but I think it depends on the baby.

Lynzjam · 11/04/2011 18:36

I think the burp you get when you sit the LO up after a feed is enough!

Argggh it used to pee me off the amount of folk that would take my lol (when she was first born) and pat her on the back to get burps up. Waste of time IMO.

Lynzjam · 11/04/2011 18:37

LO, not lol Confused

mylovelymonster · 11/04/2011 20:01

my sister would give DD a fair old wallop too!! Not just a gentle circular back massage/cuddle Grin

IAmTheCookieMonster · 11/04/2011 20:09

I rarely winded DS but I coul tell when he needed it because of a face he'd pull
