vomity fussy 5 week old...is this reflux?

hello,

my baby is 5 weeks and has just over the last few days started vomiting after feeds. At first I just ignored it thinking it normal as it was a small amount, but it is getting more and more and last night we had our first projectile vomit Shock. Very disheartening as I had just spent 30 mins feeding her and she seemed hapily snoozy and ready for sleep until i burped her when she vomited a little followed by thte projectile about 5 mins later.

she has also started getting upset when i feed her, pulling herself off my boob when there is still plenty of milk and crying before trying to latch back on. Before she would happily feed for a good 40-60 minutes no problem and now she just seems really fussy.

Is this reflux and if so can anyone help me with what I should do. I am currently living in Mexico so don't have health visitor to ask, rather a paediatrician (at 50 pound a visit grrrrr!) who I will arrange to go to to ask about this, but any advice from back home would be lovely.

Thanks so much.

Wanted to add that she is only breast fed, with one bottle of expressed milk in the evenings.

Also! Is there anything I shouldn't be eating to help her digest more easily/stop her vomitting? There seem to be mixed messages here with this. thanks!!

This sounds almost exactly like my DD (now 11 weeks). She vomits after (and sometimes during) feeds all the time and sometimes has what I call "screamy feeds" when she screams at the breast (sometimes for up to 20 mins) before feeding. I have been to the paediatrician about this and since she is gaining weight well and is otherwise happy, they have said there is no point in giving her any medication. It sounds like your DD has reflux, but unless she is clearly in pain and/or not gaining or losing weight then I suspect the paediatrician will do the same as mine and tell you just to arm yourself with towels and muslins for the next few months!

Oh and does this sound like your DD?

Hello. Things have been a little better. she still gets a bit fussy when feeding (although not all feeds, very random!) pulling herself off and crying as if she is suddenly in pain and then quickly trying to latch back on getting stressed that this doesn't happen quick enough. But the vomitting has decreased, although we did have one tremendous vomit last night Shock which scared the both of us, and made me watch her paranoidly for the next couple of hours (!), but otherwise seems to have calmed down a lot. I'm trying to take more time in burping her too as wondered whether it could be that she is uncomfortable when feeding if she has some trapped gas and is getting stressed between wanting to feed and feeling uncomfortable. just an idea?

The kellymom link could be quite similar to her actually, and i do eat and drink a lot of dairy (ice cream mmm!!) so maybe i should cut down and see if that helps her.

Thanks so much for your support :)
