I can't express loads and would like DD to get used to the taste of formula as I would like to stop feeding soon. Can I mix them?

When mine were 6mths I started to mix feed and I sometimes topped up EBM with aptamil so yes, I'm fairly sure it's ok.
But check with someone who has recent knowledge as my youngest is 3 and they constantly change stuff like this. Smile

Sorry, that was probably no help at all. What I'm trying to say is that it used to be ok to do so but just check in case guidelines have changed.

Thanks.....I want to make my milk go further for weaning as I can't express all that much for the baby rice.

I don't see why not...just be aware that formula can't be kept as long and can't be re-heated for a later feed like BM can so you may end up wasting some of the BM unnecessarily if she doesn't finish feeds.

MummyBerryJuice · 07/04/2011 15:50

There is no reason why you couldn't mix feed but I wouldn't physically mix formula into ebm. Why don't you use the ebm for mixing into weaning olds and give the formula as a drink?

I want to get her used to the taste of formula and at the moment she won't have it on it's own :(

Ah! I see. How about mixing her formula in with her food? That will get her used to the taste but in a diluted form.

Are you wanting to stop bf entirely or is it because you are going back to work and need her to take some formula during the day?

greeneone12 · 07/04/2011 17:20

I want to stop entirely but atm she won't take a bottle. I figure if she gets used to the taste of formula it might make it easier.....or she might drink it from a cup...

Yes, it's fine - though you do of course have to follow preparation and storage guidelines for formula. When DD was in SCBU and I couldn't express much, they mixed my milk with formula for her feeds.

If she won't take a bottle surely that's more of an issue? Confused

MummyBerryJuice · 07/04/2011 19:33

How old is your DD? Have you tried a cup?

greeneone12 · 08/04/2011 19:25

I am trying a free flow cup but it's early days. She is 5 months. It is an issue she doesn't take a bottle but I don't want to keep expressing and wasting it so I want her to get used to the taste of formula so that she might take a bottle with that in IYSWIM
