Can you recommend a lactose-free formula?

My 11mo has got a bit of lactose intolerance after a gastro bug. Apparently it's not uncommon. I need to shift her off cows milk formula and onto something suitable for a few weeks. I would rather give her a formula than a straight milk (eg soya milk).

Can anyone recommend a lactose-free formula that comes ready made up? She won't touch powdered stuff. Am going to post in health as well. Thanks very much.

I dont think there are any lactose free formulas in carton form. Is she close to 1 year as you could try lactose free cows milk (i.e. not formula) - It is called Lactofree and you find it in the fridge with goats milk, etc

if the GP has told you that she has a lactose intolerance then s/he should also have prescribed you a suitable formula

i would go back and ask about that

He referred me to HV for guidance and said I should go to supermarket and buy a suitable formula, which I am OK with.

Seona, thanks and curses, had a feeling there might not be anything carton form. how annoying. Will try powdered.

If anyone knows anything different, I would love to hear. Would rather not move her onto non-formula milk yet unless I have to.

Colief contains lactase which will digest the lactose so you could just add that to the normal formula.

hmmm i would go back and see him (or a different GP) again.
you are entitled to get it on prescription which will save you money

as seona says, there is nothing without lactose that comes in carton form afaik!

Lactose free powder is more expensive so if your gp has advised it then he should have prescribed it.

I would go the coleif path too. Sma do LF formula in powder form but it doesn't taste quite right (!) and DS wouldn't touch it.

SMA do a soya based formula, which is presumably lactose free. We give DS Cow and Gate Comfort, which is reduced lactose. Not in cartons though, which is a shame.
