DS 15 weeks is pulling off constantly at feeds, mainly to gaze at me and smile. He is also turnung his head around with my boob still firmly clamped in his mouth and stretching/twisting it - ouch! This is a phase right? Any tips to minimse? My poor boobs have been through so much with tongue tie, mastitis x 6 I think at last count and we'd just cracked things. I really don't want to get sore again.

Have to admit his grin is super cute, the little monkey :)

Ow! And Aw! Very sweet!!

DS did the same thing. Your DS is just getting to be a bit more aware of his surroundings and of all the fabulously interesting things going on around him (not least you. He clearly wants to chat to you about how fab you are for giving him all this lovely milk).

You could try feeding somewhere very calm, quiet, dark etc but that's clearly not practical for every feed and to be honest, it's probably a phase.

Awww he sounds so adorable!
It does sound to me like he is just a bit distractable at the moment. Not sure what to suggest, try feeding him some where quiet and boring, perhaps, if he'll let you drape a muslim over his head as well (especially if you are somewhere that is not quiet!).
I would take him off with a firm "no!" if he pulls and causes you pain and then get him to latch on again, hopefully he will get the message!

Thanks, hopefully it will pass soon! Nursing in public is getting interesting.

DD (14 weeks) has just started doing this. I wasn't sure whether it was distraction or teething (mega dribbly, trying to eat own arm etc). Maybe it's a combination of both but know what you mean about having just cracked it! Hope it stops soon as feeling a little bruised - sorry no advice, just empathy Grin.

Oh yes, teething, bah. DS is also dribbly and trying to eat hands - not sure if teeth or developmental. Hope it settles for you too CJmommy :)

My DS has started doing this at 8 weeks, especially on the left breast. So I'll be watching this thread, already had much amusement at the suggestion of draping a Muslim over the baby's head!
