DD does weird thing when bottle feeding? Am worried. Help!

Its not all the time and not every feed but once every so often, DD is feeding (bottle) and all of a sudden I can't feel her breathing. I take the bottle out and sit her up and she sort of struggles for a bit then starts breathing again. Then everything is fine and she carries on feeding.

As I read this I am wondering why the fuck I haven't taken her to the doctors but as she is always ok and with everything else there is nothing wrong with her, I'm not sure that there is anything actually wrong.

Has anyone ever experienced this?

How old is she? Does she go red?

I'd get her checked TBH. DS (BF) did have a couple of episodes like this - he had reflux and the acid would come up his throat and nose and he couldn't breathe for a bit. Only when lying down though - how upright is she during a feed?

She does go red after and cries for a couple of seconds.

We also think she has reflux, she is on gaviscon as she gets very uncomfortable and groans and strains constantly (like she is permanently trying to poo but she isn't constipated). I also know that sometimes she is sick and swallows it again.

I try and keep her slightly upright, maybe I need to keep her up a bit more.

Sounds very typical of reflux. DS did this a lot when he was tiny, as did DD. I think it'd be a good idea to get her checked but don't freak too much in the meantime. Babies are surprisingly efficient at clearing their airways.

Yes sounds like reflux - exactly what DS had. Gaviscon was useless as it doesn't neutralise the acid - which is what makes them stop breathing (as it catches the back of the throat). Ranitidine was much better.

It's also worth investigating whether she is intolerant to cows milk as can produce the same reflux problems. You can get hydrolysed formula on prescription which breaks down the protein. Might be worth a trip to the GP!
