Bottle Feeding Advice Needed.....

Rebecca is 3 days old and is bottle feeding.

She is only taking 1-2oz every 3 hours and is being quite sick - not after every feed but probably every other.

Spoke to MW today who put the sick down to mucus in her tummy following birth, and isnt concerned, but im worrying!

She is never going to put on weight at this rate.... Jessica always took 3-4oz from day 1 so this is all a bit new..... am i worrying over nothing? Should i try and offer more feeds?

Rebecca isnt "asking" for the feeds either really, im just going by times and giving them and she takes them..... oh god im a bad mummy already!

Jarm, second the girls,it's not too late to have another crack at breastfeeding if you really want to.

Association for Breastfeeding Mothers are also very helpful.
They're on 0870 401 7711

Best of luck,whatever happens.

JARM I bottlefed both of my ds because i was not producing enough milk but i kept trying for a month. Both of my babies were very sicky specially ds used to bring the whole bottle back. I think it is because bottle milk is a bit hard for them to digest but they get used to it also you have to be very careful about bottle feeding that it is
of the right temprature, cold milk it hard to digest
you have to wind them up after every feed though it may take ages to wind in the first few months.
try to make fresh milk every time by keeping boiled water in a flask.
obviously you have to sterelize every thing.
Good luck with bottle feeding.

My DD would only take 10-20 mls of EBM at first, she was so sleepy she never latched either for about the first 5 days. I was so upset as desperately wanted to breastfeed. What I did was to keep offering her a boob when she was due a feed first then finishing off with a bottle of EBM, she eventually got the hang of it and didn't need the bottle.

If you want to I would keep offering her a boob before her bottle, I think the sheer shock of birth and starting to feed makes some babies not want to latch. After all it must be some shock to their system to come out after never feeling hungry to suddenly having something shoved in their mouths (breast or bottle).

Good luck no matter what you decide, I'm sure Rebecca will thrive. Your doing a great job already
