driving after a csection

Just a query re: driving again after a csection. For some reason I seem to think some insurance policies state a time in weeks for how long after c section you are covered to drive again, so I telephoned broker this morning who told me she thought as long as I'm not going against doctors advice it should be fine - just wanted to check this is right and how long doctors advice is to wait assuming allis healing well? I seem to think I was told to wait 4 - 6 weeks but now I'm wondering if actually it was 6 weeks to wait and I'm just being hopeful with the 4 week thing.

forgot to say I am 4 weeks post csec today, so, would be great to know if I can finally take myself and DD out on our own

I was at four weeks both times as had very good recovery. The doctors advice was 'check with your insurance company' and insurance company advice was 'check with your doctor!' I trusted my own instincts and tried a few roads by myself and emergency stops with no problems

Oh no - my GP check up isn't until 8 weeks - I can't wait another month Confused.

I phoned both our Insurers (2 cars) and both said so long as GP hadn't advised me not to drive it was fine with them (& I work for one of them so was content I was speaking to right person & that they understood) . I think I was about 3 weeks therefore but would have been comfortable a week earlier.

It may be sensible to wait till you're off pain killers so you can feel any soreness caused by belt - just a thought.

I had the situation where ins co said it depends on gp's advice and gp said it's nothing to do with him! Apparently, it is all to do with whether you are able to do an emergency stop safely. I was advised to go and sit in the car and stamp on the brake. If I was hesitant, or if it hurt (so that I may be hesitant in doing it again) then I shouldn't drive.

I rang my doc to try and get cleared but she was very reluctant and I had (IMO) healed well enough to drive at 4 weeks. She told me to practise the emergency stop and that she'd see me at the 6 week check, so had to wait. It was very annoying so I hope you have better luck than I did!

The 6 week thing is a myth. It is your responsibility to be sure that you can drive safely and not against medical advice, but there is no set number of weeks.
