Question about periods and fertility

I had a period when DH was 7 weeks. Then nothing until he 4 months. I last had a period on the 12th Feb. We've have had unprotected sex (once) since then.

I've been feeling nauseous for about 2 weeks, so I POAS but it was -ve. POAS again about a week ago and it was still -ve.

I think it must be irregular periods and coincidental nausea (possibly due to tiredness). Does that seem likely?

DS is still pretty much EBF, a bottle once a week maybe. I can't believe I'd be all that fertile anyway. And I didn't think false -ves were very common.

TIA

EBFing should theoretically act as a contraception by releasing a hormone that stops your periods (or something like that!). So its probably down to that and I wouldn't worry!

But if it's worrying you then of course have a chat with your doctor. Found this page on it though so have a look if you have time, it might put your mind at rest :).

Thanks Rachie, I'll read that now.

Breastfeeding only reliable as contraceptive if periods haven't come back. As you have had a period probably best to go and discuss with GP who can do blood test, although its unlikely if POAS is -ve.

If you're having periods then you're ovulating, even if irregularly.

That makes contraception even more necessary as your cycle isn't regular and predictable.

If you continue to have sex without contraception sooner or later you will probably get pregnant!

If you had a negative pregancy test at least 2 weeks after the episode of unprotected sex then it's unlikely to be a false negative, but if it was before 2 weeks then you may have tested too early and need to test again.

Kellymom has some info. As forever says, bf only acts as a contraceptive if you've not had any periods yet.

Ok, thanks everyone!
