Baby suddenly screaming and not feeding

My ebf 4 month old has been feeding every two hours from day one. She just woke around the time her next feed was due but has spent the last hour just screaming - she screams if I put her near my boob, and only seems happy over my shoulder. I thought it might be wind but nothing has come up and now she has gone to sleep - we are now coming up to four hours since she fed and I am worried at this change in her behaviour. Any ideas please?

Could she be teething or be coming down wit something?

At 4 months she could definitely be teething. You might want to check her gums for reddening or little bulges (teeth!). Also, take her temp. But she can certainly go 4 hours between feeds at 4 months. She's not going to starve herself deliberately. And sometimes trapped wind takes a while to come out - one end or the other!

Ear infection?

Thanks ladies - if it was teething wouldn't she latch on first and then get upset? I have just checked and her temperature is normal. I have spent the last 18 weeks wondering when she'll go longer between feeds and now she has I am panicking. She has definitely slept more than usual too.

Teething can just make them cranky and not all babies get a temp. Is she dribbling a lot? My son used to get a bit of an upset tummy when he was teething from swallowing so much saliva.

If none of that fits, then just keep an eye on her and if she's still a bit off-colour tomorrow morning I'd go and see the doc or ask the HV to come round. But it could be nothing - I remember every time my DS deviated from his usual routine it would make me think something was wrong, but often it was nothing.

Thanks juneau. She's just had a big feed and given me a smile so you may be right and I'm just paranoid! She has been sucking her thumb a lot so I'll keep an eye on the teething. Really appreciate the help.
