9mo - how many milk feeds?

DD is nearly 9mo and I'm settling her into nursery (sob!) so am getting her used to expressed breastmilk in a bottle. However she really doesn't seem too bothered, yet isn't crying for a feed direct from me. She has a feed before bed, generally at least once overnight, and in the morning. Other than that, does she still need feeds during the day? I assumed she would have one mid morning and one mid afternoon...

I'm interested to know other people's experience as I don't want to do the wrong thing and not give her enough milk!

If she's established on solids, 4 milk feeds a day is fine. Topped up with mill in her diet I.e cheese etc

However, if your returning to work I would say you may be better weaning off the night feed and giving it to her during the day.

have you tried offering the milk in a cup instead? At 9 months my 2 had 3 milk feeds (am, mid afternoon and pm).

Thanks for the replies - sorry was out visiting friends so hadn't got back to this earlier.

I'd like to wean her off the overnight feeds; we've been putting it off due to a month or two of various illnesses for both kids (inc chicken pox) but once we're back to normal we'll work on that one.

Seona - from what you say, did your DCs just have 3 feeds in total over 24hours? If so that would be my ideal, I guess; morning and evening could be bf and the afternoon could be from a bottle. I don't think she dislikes the bottle; I did try her from a sippy cup but as she's used to water from those she did give me a Hmm look... may try it again though. I don't think she's that bothered about whether the milk is warm or cold and from what I read bf milk shouldn't be over-heated, so if it were in a sippy cup nursery staff would probably leave it cold.

Anyway, thanks for the replies, good to hear how other children have been at this age.

I've been back at work for a couple of months now, and I was worried about this too. DD is almost 10mo now, and over the last 3 weeks she has dropped one of her daytime bottles of ebm. She eats enough solid food when I'm not there to not be bothered about the second bottle.

Now she has a feed first thing, a bottle during the morning at some point, a feed when we get home (to give my boobs some space Smile) and bedtime. Then various overnight feeds to get her back off to sleep.

We need to sort out her overnight waking, but that's another thread Smile.
