Blocked duct - Wake to feed?

Suffering with a rather nasty blocked duct in one breast. Symptoms have been building all day. Have fed dd (4 months old) regularly (ev 2 hours all day), had hot bath, tried expressing, massaged area, hot flannels etc but nothing seems to have shifted it yet....

DD has now gone down for the night so in theory won't now feed for another 6 or 7 hours. Am I right in thinking that if I leave her for that long, my poor boob is going to get worse rather than better? Would you wake her to feed? How often?
Of course, there is always the danger that I'll wake her up and she won't want to feed!
What would you do?

Bump!

Anyone awake who knows about these things? Smile

I would wake her to feed. Have you checked your nipple to see if you have a milk blister/bleb? Look in a mirror, you may not be able to see otherwise.

I would also wake to feed. She probably won't properly wake up, and you'll be in bits by the morning otherwise!

Lean forward and massage as you feed.

Good luck.

Thanks guys :)

I did wake her - every three hours right through the night, massaging as she fed. Really glad I did as it seems to have done the trick!

Glad it feels better! If it develops into mastitis that is miserable.

I only had mastitis once, despite bf all three DCs for several months each. Annoyingly, I came down with it literally days before finally stopping bf the third one. Angry

Same here! I'm breastfeeding my 4th and never had any problems. Was really worried about it developing into mastitis so it worth the disturbed night to try and shift it!
And as a double bonus, she has gone down for her lunchtime nap without a fuss because she's so tired from all of those night wakings! Smile
