Started solids and now DD is being arsey about taking her bottle

Title says it all really. DD is coming up for 6 months and we started weaning a few weeks ago. As far as solids are concerned, it's all going swimmingly. She loves her food and has really got the hang of it. But she's started to get less interested in her bottles. So I'm wondering why and what to do about it. She's on neocate (which is foul) so maybe her tastebuds are waking up and she's realising that she doesn't like this muck that we've been making her drink all these months?? I know that at this age she should be getting most of her nutrition through her milk - should I be worried? Any advice? Thanks!

We have nutramigen here, so know all about delightful milks LOL but I don't think weaning puts them off of it as it's what they know.

What times are you offering milk and solids?

cardamomginger · 17/03/2011 16:09

thanks jesieb - i guess it is pretty much all she has known!

bottle at 7.30 - 8.00
solids at 10.30
bottle at 11.30
bottle at 3.00
solids at 5.45
bottle at 7.00
bottle at 11.30

before solids she was having 180 - 210 per feed, but she was also throwing up quite a bit - tail end of allergic inflammatory response to cows' milk - so she was actually existing on less than this.

now she is throwing up much much less - some days are almost dry. so she's keeping down more of what she takes. in a day she's getting about 650 ml.

solids are still just veg or fruit and i suppose she has about 50 ml a serving.

she's been plotting the 50th centile or both length and height pretty consistently, so i'm guessing she's just under 7.5 kilos. we have a hospital appointment at the beginning of april and they will weigh her then, so i guess we will see if there is a problem. i'm probably getting all pfb about this, but as we've had a lot of problems with her milk and feeding and her digestion (poor little thing had to have sigmoidoscopy and endoscopy) i think i'm a bit panicky about it.

I would say she's eating lots in the morning, lots in the evening and then nothing over the middle of the day.

I personally think it may help if you bought your morning solids earlier so it is with her breakfast.
Have bottle at 10.30, bring in 3rd solids for lunch at 12.30/1 and then it would flow into what you already do.

It something along those lines to spread things out a bit and to establish food as meals. Iyswim

But would that work with her sleeps?

What do you think?

Don't worry about worrying. I still worry but I am so much more calmer now. It will come with time and confidence.
Just make sure give each new food time to show any reactions incase they do, and then you'll know for sure if its ok for her or not.

yeah - that's a good idea. i was working up to introducing a third solid meal, but i was a bit worried that another meal of solids might make her reduce her milk intake even more. i can always go back to 2 meals if it does, i suppose. so far we are on single fruits and veg - 1 new thing a day (for the earlier meal) which i give for 2 days before moving to the next new food. i think we have been ok so far. she gets eczema round her mouth and teething/dribble rash, but i hope she hasn't had a reaction! certainly no swelling and nothing new/worse very soon after eating. thanks for your advice! x
