Breastfeeding diet and nutrition

I wonder if anyone can help me with book/DVD recommendations?

I want something which tells me what I should be eating/drinking etc. Sort of nutritional advice and I suppose recipe ideas. I absolutely piled on weight when BFing DS largely because I was so bloody hungry all the time and ended up eating crap almost constantly. DD is now 7 weeks old and once again, I'm massively hungry all the time!! Don't want the same thing to happen so just want to get a handle on what I should be doing. I'm trying to snack on healthy stuff and am eating loads of fruit, but the reality is that I'm craving toast, toast, more toast, and egg and chips.

Save me from myself!!

A generally healthy nutritious diet is good - maybe get a book on a lower GI diet if you need a book. Lower GI foods should help you stay full for longer.

I don't think there is anything specifically for bfing.

Watching with interest. Did same as op with dd1. Now can see same patterns emerging with dd2... Really want to loose not gain more!

What japhrimel said. Stock up on healthy stuff and don't buy any of the stuff you don't want to binge on. Is there somewhere you can go for a nice long walk once or twice a week?

7 weeks is early days too, your hormones are probably still all over the place. I had a terrible diet until DD1 was a couple of months old because all my pregnancy food aversions hung around for a while...

Low GI/GL stuff is good - go for things like hummus or nut butters on oatcakes as a snack. If you want toast try soya and linseed bread rather than white. Porridge for breakfast, wholemeal pasta and brown rice instead of white and swap for grains like quinoa and pearl barley. All good for keeping you full and reducing sugar cravings.

If you want to track your calorie intake/expenditure, a site like fitday.com can help. Just remember that bfing takes (I think - can someone confirm this?) about 500cals a day so mentally add that on to your expenditure.

I don't think there's anything wrong with toast, as long as it's wholemeal and you use flora or something rather than loads of butter. Peanut butter on toast is a great snack, lots of complex carbs to release energy slowly. If you fancy egg and chips have scrambled egg and sweet potato chips (done in the oven, not deep fried) :)
